Mecosta County Medical Center has received the prestigious Governor's Award of Excellence for Improving Care in both the Hospital and in the Emergency Department.
The Governor's Award of Excellence, is sponsored by the Governor in concert with MPRO, Michigan's Medicare Quality Improvement Organization. The award is bestowed to hospitals that are embracing evidence-based medicine and quality improvement initiatives to advance health care in Michigan.

| MCMC Receives Award for Outstanding Quality of Care-Area of Pneumonia |
MCMC was recently named as a 2006 CareScience Select Practice National Quality Leader in the category of pneumonia. The recognition of these accomplishments was published in the 2006 CareScience Select Practice National Quality Leader Report, now available. As a recipient of this award, MCMC has achieved superior performance in care of patients in the disease group of pneumonia, as identified by the CareScience™ Select Practice methodology, which utilizes both quality and efficiency indices to track a hospital's performance. The Quality index is calculated by combining the outcome deviations for mortality, morbidity, and complications into a single quality measure for each facility. The efficiency index is calculated by using length-of-stay as a proxy for resource usage, which reflects how efficiently hospitals allocate resources amongst patients. All acute care inpatient facilities in the United States with at least 50 cases of a given disease were eligible to receive a CareScience Select Practice Leader designation in that disease area. www.carescience.com/newsevents/selectpractice/index.cfm. |
