Dr. Peter Macdonald, Family Physician from MHS, Big Rapids just recently completed the Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Bank Marathon, which is ranked as one of the best venues for running 26.2 miles in North America. Out of 401 men in his 35-39 year old age group, he ranked 99th place with a time of 3 hours and 32.54 minutes.
Dr. Macdonald, a former resident of Brampton Canada, was pleasantly
surprised to see his family show up to support him. "I have been running since 2000, when my wife sparked my interest.
|
The first long race I did was 15.5 miles in Grand Rapids (the Fifth Third Bank Run). So this was my first marathon," says Macdonald.
The course is international -- crossing US and Canadian borders twice -- once via the Ambassador Bridge into Canada and returning to the US via the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel. The tunnel offers the only international underwater mile in the world. Starting near the Comerica Park, he ran through Corktown -- Detroit's Irish settlement dating back to the early 1800s.
|
The runners ran a short distance around Belle Isle -- a beautiful park and island on the Detroit River and then entered Indian Village continuing by Martin Luther King Jr. High School and through Greektown before entering the tunnel finish to Ford Field.
Dr. Macdonald would like to thank his wife, Dr. Julie Boss for all of her support. He says, "It's important to me to be able to practice what I preach. Exercising three times a week is not just something I talk about."
He plans to run the 30km "Around the Bay Run" in Hamilton, Ontario next March.

Most frail elderly prefer to remain in their own homes rather than move to an extended care facility or other institution. The Home Health Care Department at Mecosta County General Hospital works to make sure that these people in our community along with individuals recovering from surgery, an illness, accident, or permanent disability don't have to worry about leaving their home. |
We offer this desired service by bringing the health care provider to your loved one's home. Our caregivers provide many services to enable the home bound to live comfortably in familiar
|
surroundings. A variety of healthcare professionals at MCGH made 6,600
visits last year. Nurses, physical/occupational/speech therapists, social workers, and home health aides provided care in the comfort of the home 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
This continued care is covered under Medicare, Medicaid and most commercial insurance companies. We submit all claims and handle all paper work.
