Stanwood Buffalo Eagles Ladies Auziliary #4360 donates $1,000

On May 9, the Stanwood Buffalo Eagles Ladies Auxiliary #4360 donated $1,000 to the SPW Fund - raised from funds gathered in the Auxiliary President's fund and augmented to $1,000 by the membership of the auxiliary over the last two years to promote health awareness. "Breast cancer is so prevalent in this area. People need the resources to help answer the hard questions, such as how to feel or where to go," said Barb Lindland, treasurer of the Stanwood Buffalo Eagles Ladies Auxiliary. She adds, "The SPW Fund is worthwhile and we just need it."

[The Fraternal Order of Eagles has members in over 1,700 local Aeries and Auxiliaries in the United States of America and Canada. They help make communities a better place to live in through the slogan "people helping people" and with donations to fund research in areas such as Heart Disease, Kidney Disease, Diabetes and Cancer.]
 
  FSU Basketball donates $900

On May 14, the FSU Director of Athletics Thomas Kirinovic, on behalf of FSU's Athletic Department, gave $900 to the SPW Fund. FSU men's and women's basketball teams collected $1 from each ticket sold at the Feb. 24 game as a donation to the SPW Fund. "The Ferris State Athletic Department is excited to have started a relationship with the Susan P. Wheatlake Fund and the opportunity to financially support the efforts of this outstanding Cancer and Wellness group," says Kirinovic. He expresses, "We look forward to working more closely with the group in the future to mutually benefit the Fund and the Athletics Department."
River Walk for Wellness

More than 68and their familiespart in the19 "River Walk for Wellness", held the Susan P. Wheatlake Committee/MCMC Foundation. Walkers contributed more than $2,290 to the cause- and celebrated wellness and fellowship with the help of Comstock House Bed and Breakfast, Yoplait USA, Ice Mountain, Dunkin Donuts and others. Proceeds go to build the SPW endowment fund and to aid MCMC in the support of women with cancer.

Inpatient Medical Rehab' Fiesta! - June 7

Mecosta County Medical Center's Inpatient Rehabilitation team is hosting it's Annual Rehab Tea on Thursday, June 7 from 2:00-4:00 p.m., at the Rehab Department. The event is held in honor of past Inpatient Rehabilitation patients who worked with the MCMC Rehab team to recover from a stroke, burns, arthritis, fractures, surgery healing, or severe injuries.

Department Manager Paul Heinzmann, Medical Directors Dr. Derek Lado and Dr. Girish Juneja, Nurse Practitioner Catherine Balanda, and the entire Rehab team look forward to seeing how well previous patients are doing.

This year the theme is a Mexican Fiesta, so participants are encouraged to wear something Southwestern and/or summer-related. Refreshments will be served along with prizes.
