This year's MCGH Auxiliary Ice Cream Social was another success.
Approximately 500-600 people stopped by the Riverview Elementary School on Thursday, June24 for some pie, ice cream and fun.

The MCGH auxiliary awarded eight local high school graduates with $500 Health Career scholarships. The winners were: Curtis Johnson, Tyler Cook, Leticia Carvahlo-Pinto, Lisa Park, Katrina Niedzielski, Amber Johnson, Shana Lewis, and Nacole Enos.
Vanessa Rehkopf, Lori Tipton, and Kim Padron, who are planning on studying in medical fields, received VanDyke Scholarships at $1,000 each.

MCGH Staff Learn About Protection Against Bio-Terrorism

An educational seminar was held at MCGH on Wed., 6/23 for all staff on Tours of the facility were hosted by Dr. Charles Brummeler, Dr. identifying terrorism/bio-terrorism and the necessary protection needed in a hospital setting.

The speaker was Kathy Wahl, RN - Training Coordinator of HRSA Grants at Michigan Department of Community Health.
The group also reviewed symptoms and treatments of Anthrax, Tularemia/Rabbit Fever, Botulinum Toxin, Ebola, Smallpox, and different forms of the plague.
"As the state prepares itself for biological threats, MCGH is also making training preparations",

says Ginny Keusch, Manager of MCGH Emergency Department. "Our new ER, which will be complete anytime between November through February, will have a decontamination and isolation shower room for anyone exposed to a chemical spill."
Funds to purchase the personal protective equipment were provided by federal monies administered by the state as part of a $5000 grant to MCGH for chemical and biological terrorism preparatory purposes.

MCGH Foundation Golf Outing August 17, 2004

This year is the fifth year that the MCGH Foundation will benefit from its golf outing sponsored by the Ford Motor Club of Canadian Lakes and All-American Ford Lincoln Mercury of Big Rapids.
The event is scheduled for August 17 at St. Ives Golf Club in Canadian Lakes and invitations have issued for sponsors and golfers. This year's outing features a shotgun start at 10:00 a.m., lunch, dinner, an auction and raffle, as well as a number of interesting contests and competitions to add value and

interest for golfers. Over the past five years, the committee has been able to increase its donation to the MCGH Foundation from $2,500 to $21,000 last year.
Ken Reuther notes, "We will continue to build on the success of prior MCGH Foundation golf outings, actively moving forward in the Ford tradition. We are very grateful for the support received from the community regarding this event, and the planning committee is confident that we will be more successful this year than we have been in the past."
