The Referral Office at Mecosta Health Services is a department of two individuals - Norine Rothig and Jill Kazmierczak. They are responsible for arranging all MHS patient referral appointments outside of MHS. They make the appointment, assure the insurance coverage for payment of the appointment, provide the patient teaching for diagnostic test preparation, arrange to have any significant

medical record information delivered to the specialist prior to the appointment, provide the patient with directions and a map to the
appointment and are available if the patient has questions prior to the specialist appointment. In addition they are responsible for arranging for coverage of all
pre-authorized prescriptions, both new medications and refills. They also assist Dr. Narayana Parasu with dictation work and scheduling.
The most difficult part of their job is "keeping-up" with Medicaid's always-changing formularies for prescriptions. Since the medical staff needs to know what
medications are covered under Medicaid, it's makes their job research-packed.

The most amazing thing to these ladies is the level of teamwork that Mecosta Health
Services holds. They have to work with many individuals in the office who all have contact with patients somehow. Jennifer Schoner is a perfect example they say. She makes sure that patient's medical records are received by the specialists and without teamwork, the whole process would be lost.
Kari Ash also does referral work at the Canadian Lakes office. Bonnie Wernette is filling in for her currently, until she returns from maternity leave.

February is "Heart Health Month" and "Cardiac Rehabilitation Month". It is also the month when we celebrate love.
MCGH has a very active Cardiac Rehabilitation Center. Among our long term maintenance participants we have 4 married couples who exercise together for "fun and
fitness". Between them they have 211 years of married life. The four couples are: Helen & George Rouman; Jeanne & Harley Reeder; Beverly & Norvil Brown; and Charlotte & Ed Denny.

For Valentines Day we have a contest to guess who has been married the longest. We have posted the numbers of years and photographs of the four couples. To win, all four couples must be matched up with the correct number of years. One couple was married Valentines Day 1941 (63 YEARS). Another was married in May of 1942 (61 ¾ years). The other two couples were married 40 & 47 years. No one knows whether this was the first marriage or whether the couples were married young or later in life. There are small prizes for guessing correctly and the four couples will get to keep their framed photographs.

Cardiac Rehabilitation, Phase 2 is for those folks who have had a serious cardiac event such as a heart attack, heart surgery or acute angina. Phase 3 is for both maintenance and prevention. The maintenance portion is for those who have gone through phase 2 and wish to maintain and or improve the level of fitness they attained. The prevention program is for those people who are at risk for heart disease and or people with a history of a cardiac event in the past.
